CAMPINGCAMPINGCAMPINGCAMPING

A week or so ago my dearest roommate from sophomore year Olivia trekked out to the mountains and we went to a place very near and dear to my heart. I grew up coming to Huntfish Falls, a little swimming hole on Wilson Creek in the Linville Gorge area, and remember a time when i swore the 10-foot bolder by the lowest falls was a cliff and the 8/10ths of a mile hike in felt like forever.

Now that I'm older, I've discovered that the jump is smaller, the water colder, and it's actually the straight up-hill hike OUT that's forever.

I also appreciated the spot in a new way this time, as in the numerous times I visited as a child were always daytrips, and this was my first over-night there. As Liv and I sat on the rocks by the falls and tried to distinguish the fireflies from shooting stars and contemplated all the big things one tends to contemplate when faced with an endless vault of sky and the constant flow of thousands of gallons of water, I realized that all the things my mom has always said about the mountains being God's country were so true.

We didn't even see any snakes or naked men this time! It was a quality trip.

Adventure Sunday, round 3: NC Arboretum

This past Sunday I checked an item off my Asheville Adventure Bucket List and Lindsay and I ventured out to the NC Arboretum for the afternoon. The weather was wonderful and the plants beautiful and the conversation excellent. Overall it was a win of an afternoon.

The lady at the front desk convinced us to hike out to the azalea garden. I asked "Don't azaleas bloom in the spring? Are any blooming?" "Oh yes," assured she, "The big bloom is in April but there are some that bloom all summer"

So we hiked about 15 miles and found no azaleas in bloom. It was still a good day.

Here's some pictures (of course)!

A Downtown Adventure

Hello all! Sorry for the long delay, things have gotten busy out here!

This post is long belated but worth the wait for the pictures. A couple weeks ago Brad drove out from Charlotte for the day and he and Holly and I wandered around downtown and explored everything from used bookstores to costume shops to painted overpasses. It was a wonderful excursion. It's not every day you get to wear a StarTrek uniform and a Victorian style dress all in the same afternoon now is it?

Bradley gets in touch with his inner old man.

Then we made grilled peach pizza. But that's another story....
